Avinu – We have committed iniquity

In a world that is filled with chaos and sin, we as believers can easily conform and operate as the world does. There is a foundational principle that helps keep me grounded and separated from the world: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). We have been given a tool that equips us to overcome not only this world, but even our own sin; the Word of God. We must ask ourselves, do my thoughts and actions line up with the Word of God? Am I speaking life or death? On a daily basis, I find that I have to die to self and the ways of the world through the practice of renewing my mind through His Word.

King David knew the power of the Word as he stated that in heeding God’s word, a man shall cleanse his way (Psalm 119:9). When thoughts are not taken captive and made obedient to Yeshua, who is the Word, then sin is inevitable because actions follow thoughts. The Bible says that as a man thinks in his soul so is he (Proverbs 23:7). I have learned that God’s Word in my heart and my mouth is powerful because it not only carries His authority here on earth, it gives me the transforming power to overcome my sins and be more like Him! Thank God for His amazing grace He has bestowed upon us through the power of His Word!

Yeshua, the Living Word, thank You for the salvation that releases me from the bonds of sin. I thank You that You have given me the Holy Scriptures to guide and lead me in the path of righteousness, not one of destruction. Search my heart for any iniquity that has taken up residence in my life. Bring to mind a verse from the Scripture for any area that requires illumination to the truth and to Your ways. Guide me to humbly repent, but also to wield the Word to guide me away from the temptation in the future.
